The six signals
- Named end date on the current mandate, not 'winding down'
- Buyable notice period, in writing
- Diary shows at least three working days per week free within 30 days
- No parallel process where they are the front runner
- References already briefed to expect a call
- Written scoping proposal returned within 48 hours
How to verify in one call
Ask for the end date, the notice period, and the current cadence. Ask what they will say no to this quarter to protect the new mandate. A truly available candidate names two things they will decline. A 'open to' candidate says 'depends'.
