Interim vs Fractional vs Temporary Management
The three terms overlap but are not identical. Interim and temporary describe the same thing: full-time leadership for a defined period. Fractional describes part-time leadership on an ongoing basis. The difference is intensity and duration, not seniority.

Interim and temporary: the same role
Interim and temporary management describe identical work. The word changes by geography. In Italy and continental Europe it is temporary management; in the United Kingdom and the Nordics it is interim management. Both mean full ownership for a defined period.
When fractional is the right model
Fractional leadership fits companies that need senior capability but not a full-time executive: a scale-up that needs a CMO two days a week, or a portfolio company that needs operating discipline without a full salary. The cadence is ongoing, not time-boxed.
